The Line: Terence Crawford -200 See the Latest Odds

Terence Crawford will defend his WBO Lightweight title when he steps into the ring Saturday to take on Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Crawford enters this match with a 23-0 record with 16 knockouts and is hoping a victory here would bring that much closer to become one of the household names in boxing. He’s certainly working hard, as this is his fifth fight in two years, with his most recent coming against Ricky Burns back in March. That experience gives Crawford a huge advantage over Gamboa, which is why he’s the favorite heading into the fight. Crawford is an all-around great boxer, who makes defense his No. 1 priority. He takes what his opponents give him and will counter with combinations and hard blows to the body. However, you can expect Crawford to stick to his defensive routes, which is why there’s a good chance this fight goes the distance.

Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Terence Crawford Boxing Preview, Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/28/14

Gamboa is also 23-0 with 16 knockouts, but he’s only had two fights since 2011 and this will be his first fight in a year. Some would say that’s an advantage for Gamboa, but Crawford is six years younger. The experience is clearly in Crawford’s favor, but Gamboa has the much better offensive game. Gamboa has some of the best hands in boxing and his speed often gives fighters fits and usually results in a quick bout. However, four of Gamboa’s last six fights have gone the distance. Gamboa has a real chance to win this fight if he can control the tempo with his quick hands and rapid punches. He wants a quick fight and a lot of chances to land punches.

Usually the better defensive fighter wins and that’s clearly Crawford in this match. I also like Crawford due to the hunger and the work he’s put in the last couple of years. He clearly wants to rise up the totem pole, while Gamboa has a questionable work ethic and appears to have slacked off a bit.

The price may not be great, but I don’t see a problem with it that much considering I don’t see Crawford losing this fight.
