Marcos Maidana gets his rematch against Floyd Mayweather this weekend in Las Vegas. These two fought earlier this year and Mayweather won in controversial fashion that even had one judge scoring the fight a draw.
Marcos Maidana enters this fight with a 35-4 record and truly believes he has what it takes to be the fight fighter to give Mayweather a loss. The one thing that gives Maidana an honest shot in this fight is his overwhelming punching power. At 5’7”, Marcos Maidana doesn't appear to be the most physical boxer in the world, but ask guys such as Victor Ortiz and Erik Morales what he’s capable of doing. Maidana has the ability to land that one punch that ends a fight quicker than expected and it gives him a shot to beat anybody on the card. However, Maidana’s strength can also become his weakness at times, as he can become a little too wild and not be as accurate with his punches. In order to shock the boxing world, Maidana will have to bully Mayweather and jump on him quickly and often.
USA TODAY Sports
Floyd Mayweather needs no introduction, as he’s the top boxer in the world and sitting with a pretty 46-0 record. Mayweather is the total package and can beat anybody at their own game. While Mayweather is an excellent defender, his biggest strength is his mind, as he knows what a fighter wants to do and doesn't allow him to put his gameplan in motion. After seeing Maidana once already this year, the odds are even that much greater the Argentine pulls off the massive upset. However, Mayweather has had issues against jabbers in the past and can get frustrated at times when he doesn’t get off to a fast start. Still, Floyd Mayweather is the heavy favorite and has yet to lose a match for a reason.
Betting this fight is nearly impossible with Mayweather currently a -760 favorite to remain undefeated. While Marcos Maidana
has the potential to land that one haymaker, I think there’s no question Mayweather gets the victory here due to already facing him once and knowing what he’ll try to do this time around.
Simply to give us some value on this fight, I’m taking Mayweather and the under 10.5 rounds.
