Roberto Garcia and Errol Spence Jr fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Roberto Garcia enters this fight with a 33-3 record that includes 22 knockouts. Garcia enters this fight on a nine-fight winning streak, which includes an April victory over James Stevenson. Garcia hasn’t lost a fight since 2010 and enters this bout confident despite being a big underdog. Garcia is a power puncher and a physical presence, who likes to take the fight to his opponent. Garcia is tough to beat when allowed to fight on his terms with his aggressive style and pace. The concern with Garcia is his lack of good defense. Although Garcia hasn’t lost in a while, recent fighters such as Breidis Prescott have knocked him down due to leaving himself open. This will be Garcia’s first time fighting in Las Vegas.

Errol Spence Jr enters this fight with a 16-0 record that includes 13 knockouts. Spence has fought six times since 2014 and is coming off an April victory over Samuel Vargas. Spence is a young fighter who is quickly moving up the boxing totem pole and is pretty much the total package. Spence has power, quick hands, above-average defense and a high boxing intelligence. Six of Spence’s last seven fights have failed to go the distance, and he’s boxed just nine rounds in his last two bouts. The only concern is that Spence can’t enter this fight overconfident, as Garcia could land some big shots if he’s not careful. This will be Spence’s seventh time fighting in Las Vegas.
There’s a reason Spence is a big time favorite, and it’s simply because the 25-year-old is on the rise. Garcia is a slight step up in competition compared to what he’s faced so far, but this is still a mismatch that should result in yet another Spence knockout.
I’d be shocked if Garcia keeps this close or is even able to avoid being put to sleep. Spence has the potential to be special, and he'll show the boxing world another sign of just that.
