Juan Carlos Reveco and Kazuto Ioka fight New Year’s Eve at the Edion Arena Osaka for the WBA (Regular) Flyweight title.
Juan Carlos Reveco enters this fight with a 36-2 record that includes 19 knockouts. Reveco has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a September win over Breilor Teran. Reveco lost a controversial fight against Ioka in April at the Bodymaker Colosseum. Reveco was aggressive from start to finish and some think he did enough to get the advantage. Still, Reveco is one of the top flyweights in the world and has lost just one fight since 2008. Reveco packs solid power behind his punches and does a nice job of controlling the pace of the bout. The concern for Reveco in this fight is his lack of size, as his high swings in the first match allowed for some nasty counters. This will be Reveco’s third career fight in Japan.
USA TODAY Sports
Kazuto Ioka enters this fight with a 18-1 record that includes 10 knockouts. Ioka has won his last four fights and is coming off a September win over Roberto Domingo Sosa. Ioka is a straight puncher who simply does what it takes to win without much flashiness to his game. Ioka is a lengthy fighter at 5’5” and is also very solid on the defensive end. Ioka should also be extremely confident after winning many title fights in the past. The concern for Ioka is the quickness of Reveco, as he was tagged with some good shots in the last match and was slow at times defensively. Ioka has fought his whole career in Japan, his home country.
Just like the first match between these two, I simply think Reveco is outmatched here due to the drastic height advantage. Ioka is able to counter when Reveco swings up and is able to take advantage of his aggressiveness. Not to mention Ioka has the home crowd behind him and will get the nod if this fight is close again.
I have to go with the same result as last time. Ioka wins.
