Felix Sturm and Fedor Chudinov fight Saturday at the Koenig Pilsener Arena for the WBA Super Middleweight title.
Felix Sturm enters this fight with a 39-5-3 record that includes 18 knockouts. Sturm hasn’t won any of his last three fights and is coming off a May loss to Fedor Chudinov. Sturm does a great job of controlling the ring with his high boxing IQ and an impressive jab that keeps his opponent at bay. Sturm is also a great defensive fighter who has only been knocked out once and usually loses very close fights when he does lose. The concern with Sturm is that he hasn’t won a fight since 2013, and he’s not much of an aggressor who can takeover a fight with a fleury of punches. Sturm has fought all but three of his fights in Germany, his home country.
USA TODAY Sports
Fedor Chudinov enters this fight with a 14-0 record that includes 10 knockouts. This will be Chudinov’s third fight since 2013, and he’s coming off a September win over Frank Buglioni. Chudinov is quickly building a reputation of being one of the biggest hitters in the sport and has won 10 of his 14 fights by knockout. Chudinov is a short, stocky fighter who packs a serious punch and knows when to jump on his opponent when he sees the opportunity. The concern with Chudinov is that he hasn’t really been tested at this stage of his career and could be in trouble giving his first rematch. This will be Chudinov’s second career fight in Germany.
You have to be a little concerned with Chudinov giving Sturm another shot, especially in his own backyard where he will once again be the crowd favorite. With Sturm’s experience and the fact he’s a former champion, he deserves some respect in terms of betting value.
However, Chudinov is by far the better fighter here and his aggressiveness along with his power makes him a tough match for the older Sturm.
Chudinov wins once again and remains unbeaten.
