Chris Eubank Jr. and Nick Blackwell fight Saturday night at the Wembley Arena for the British middleweight title.
Chris Eubank Jr. enters this fight with a 21-1 record that includes 16 knockouts. Eubank has won his last three fights and is coming off a December win over Gary O'Sullivan. Eubank is a lot like his father with the explosiveness, as he has very quick hands and packs some power behind his punches as well. Eubank has the nickname Next Gen for a reason, as his impressive skill set makes him a fighter to keep a close eye on as he gets a few more fights under his belt. The concern with Eubank is that he has a little Adrien Broner to his game, as he will get lazy at times and sometimes not put away a fight when he should have. This will be Eubank’s sixth fight in London.
USA TODAY Sports
Nick Blackwell enters this fight with a 19-3-1 record that includes eight knockouts. Blackwell has won his last four fights and is coming off a November win over Jack Arnfield. Blackwell is a gritty fighter who may not have the pure boxing skills as Eubank, but he simply finds a way to win and has beaten some decent fighters lately in Damon Jones and John Ryder. Blackwell likes to be aggressive and keep pressure on his opponent with a variety of constant punches. The concern for Blackwell is that it’s going to be tough to be as aggressive when your opponent has an elite skill set that includes knockout power and it just takes one mistake. This will be Blackwell’s third fight in London.
This line is being a little unfair to Blackwell, as he is a talented fighter and has put together a nice little win streak against decent fighters. However, it would be shocking if Eubank lost this fight, as he’s easily the better boxer and has the skill set to end this before a 10th round. I think Blackwell is in over his head here and will lose his belt at the end of the night.
Give me Eubank in a victory by knockout.
