Gennady Golovkin and Dominic Wade fight Saturday night at The Forum for the WBA (Super), IBF, IBO and WBC interim middleweight titles.
Gennady Golovkin enters this fight with a 34-0 record that includes 31 knockouts. This will be Golovkin’s fourth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a October win over David Lemieux. Golovkin needs no introduction, as he’s the ultimate knockout artist and is widely considered one of the best boxers in the world currently. Golovkin has power in both hands, great footwork and a proven chin that has yet to let him down. The only hope opposing fighters have against Golovkin is that you can hit him, but you better be prepared for those nasty counters. Golovkin is simply the complete package, and it would take a special performance from a great fighter to give him his first loss. This will be Golovkin’s third fight in California.

Dominic Wade enters this fight with a 18-0 record that includes 12 knockouts. This will be Wade’s second fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a June win over Sam Soliman. Wade is a very talented up and comer at 26 years old and has shown he has a lot of heart. Wade has a solid reach of 75 inches and clearly has some knockout power in both hands. Wade throws accurate punches and does a fine job of working the body in hopes of wearing down his opponent. The concern with Wade is that he’s in way over his head, as he’s still young and the only real boxer he’s fought to this point was Soliman, a fight that ended in a split decision. This will be Wade’s first fight in California.
I like Wade and think he has a bright future in this sport, but he took this fight way too early. Golovkin obviously isn’t your ordinary fighter you can pull a small upset over to climb up the rankings. Golovkin is already at the top of the mountain and is somebody you don’t just schedule for the hell of it. As most fights do for Golovkin, this bout could end very badly for Wade, somebody who hasn’t lost in his own right.
I don’t see anyway Wade can pull off the historic upset. Look for Golovkin to be the one who remains undefeated after this fight.
