Oleksandr Usyk and Stephen Simmons fight Saturday afternoon at the Sport Palace for the WBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title.
Oleksandr Usyk enters this fight with a 9-0 record that includes nine knockouts. This will be Usyk’s fourth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a December win over Pedro Rodriguez. Usyk is simply a mountain of a man at 6’3” and with a reach of 78 inches. Usyk is obviously known for his punching power, as he’s won all of his pro fights by knockout and five of them have ended in the fifth round or earlier. Usyk is downright relentless with his combos and can end a fight quickly. Usyk is also quite quick for a man his size and has a tested chin as well. Usyk is simply a beast in the ring who has shown no sign of slowing down. Usyk has fought the majority of his career in Kiev.

Stephen Simmons enters this fight with a 14-1 record that includes six knockouts. Simmons has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a December win over Imantas Davidaitis. Simmons has beat up on a bunch of lower tier fighters in the UK, but he’s been around for a while, which includes winning the bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Simmons is a solid defensive fighter who usually waits for his opponent to make a mistake. The concern, however, is whether or not Simmons has enough offense to win a fight of this magnitude. This will be Simmons’ first fight outside of the United Kingdom.
This fight is going to get ugly, as it’s just a bout to keep Usyk busy until bigger names become available. Simmons doesn’t have the punching accuracy or power to hang with Usyk, and he hasn’t fought anyone close to as talented as the 29-year-old.
Usyk makes it 10-for-10 with victories by knockout.
This will get sloppy.
