Michael Hunter and Isiah Thomas fight Friday night at the Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall.
Michael Hunter enters this fight with a 11-0 record that includes eight knockouts. This will be Hunter’s sixth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a February win over Phil Williams. Hunter continues to make some noise since turning pro in 2013, as he tries to fill the shoes of his father The Bounty Hunter, who was once NABF heavyweight champion. Hunter hasn’t fought many notable names at this point of his career, but he is clear power in both of his hands and is very aggressive with his attack. Hunter just knows how to jump on his opponent and throws these massive haymakers that add up over the course of a bout. At just 27, Hunter has a chance to really climb up the rankings. This will be Hunter’s third fight in Las Vegas, his current residence.
USA TODAY Sports
Isiah Thomas enters this fight with a 15-0 record that includes six knockouts. This will be Thomas’ fourth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a December no contest against Murat Gassiev. Thomas is a great athlete with a crazy reach of 80 inches that allows him to use length and angles to his advantage. It’s real easy for Thomas to counter his opponent due to his length and can land a nasty uppercut that has helped end a lot of his recent bouts. Thomas doesn’t have a ton of power as his last four fights have ended with a decision, but he lands a lot of punches over the course of a fight and does a good job of winning rounds due to his accuracy. This will be Thomas’ third fight in Las Vegas.
This should be a decent fight between two 27 year olds who are undefeated and looking to get that big victory to their resume in order to take that next step in their career. Both are talented and have potential, but Hunter is probably the more polished at this point and has the clear advantage in terms of power.
I like Hunter to win this fight.
