Victor Emilio Ramirez and Denis Lebedev fight Saturday at the Khodynka Ice Palace for the IBF Cruiserweight and WBA Cruiserweight titles.
Victor Emilio Ramirez enters this fight with a 22-2-1 record that includes 17 knockouts. Ramirez has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a October draw against Ovill McKenzie. Ramirez could use a bounce back performance after his seven-fight winning streak was snapped with a controversial draw against a fighter with 12 losses. Ramirez’s record has been inflated by fighting a bunch of subpar dudes in the comfort of his own country. However, Ramirez can’t be underestimated due to his size at 5’11” and his punching power. Ramirez does a good job of stepping into his punches and has won five of his last seven bouts by knockout. This will Ramirez’s third career fight outside of Argentina.
USA TODAY Sports
Denis Lebedev enters this fight with a 28-2 record that includes 21 knockouts. Lebedev has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a November win over Lateef Kayode. Lebedev has been proving himself now for 15 years as one of the best boxers in his division and possibly the face of Russian boxing for a while now. Lebedev is a true brawler who has a proven chin and is more than willing to trade punches due to his confidence in his overwhelming power. Lebedev lands impressive combinations and his power has resulted in seven of his last nine wins ending in knockout. Even at 36, Lebedev is scary once he gets comfortable and is landing his shots. Most of Lebedev’s fights have taken place in Russia, his home country.
Ramirez is no longer fighting in Argentina, and he’s now going up against a dude with an iron chin and somebody with vicious power. Lebedev isn’t young anymore, but he’s still by far the better boxer in this match and will have the support of Russia behind him as usual.
I expect Lebedev to win this fight by knockout.
