Johnriel Casimero and Amnat Ruenroeng fight Wednesday in Beijing for the IBF Flyweight title.
Johnriel Casimero enters this fight with a 21-3 record that includes 13 knockouts. Casimero has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a June loss to Ruenroeng. Casimero is looking for another shot at the belt after fighting Ruenroeng in his own backyard and putting up an entertaining fight. Casimero is a young, explosive fighter at 26 years old and has enough power to always be a threat for a possible knockout. Casimero is always looking to control the fight with his offensive attack and has won his last three bouts by knockout. Casimero looks to avoid back-to-back losses for the second time of his career. This will be Casimero’s first fight in Beijing.
USA TODAY Sports
Amnat Ruenroeng enters this fight with a 17-0 record that includes five knockouts. This will be Ruenroeng’s fourth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a December win over Myung Ho Lee. Ruenroeng is a very smart boxer who makes his opponent adjust to him, as he rarely puts himself in danger and fights to his own pace. Ruenroeng is very good defensively and sometimes a little too conservative on the offensive end, which has led to many close fights that ended in split decisions. Ruenroeng does a great job of keeping his hands up and is tough to beat due to the lack of openings he provides. This will be Ruenroeng’s first fight in Beijing.
Casimero has the advantage in the youth department and is more explosive on the offensive end. However, I don’t see this fight being much different than the first one. Ruenroeng is too smart to get into an offensive attack with Casimero and will make the younger boxer fight his fight.
Ruenroeng has yet to lose a bout, and I’m betting that doesn’t change here.
