Demetrius Andrade and Willie Nelson fight Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino.
Demetrius Andrade enters this fight with a 22-0 record that includes 15 knockouts. This will Andrade’s second fight since 2015, and he’s coming October win over Dario Fabian Pucheta. Andrade is fighting for just the second time in two years despite being in the prime of his career. Andrade is an extremely athletic boxer who throws accurate and strong punches. Andrade has won five of his last seven fights by knockout and is solid defensively due to good head movement and impressive footwork. Andrade has proven he has the raw tools and a high ceiling to be something special. He just needs to be more active and continue to improve what has been a subpar resume overall. This will be Andrade’s third fight in New York.
USA TODAY Sports
Willie Nelson enters this fight with a 25-2-1 record that includes 15 knockouts. Nelson has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a March win over Jonathan Batista. Nelson has been really active lately with this being his sixth fight since 2014, and he has another title shot if he can stay in this current form. Nelson is a freakish athlete who is able to use his range and length to his advantage. Nelson loves to work the inside and has decent punching power with three of his last four wins coming by knockout. Nelson also has proven chin with both of his losses being close and never losing by knockout. The concern with Nelson seems to be his boxing IQ, as he doesn’t always make the right adjustments and sometimes relies just on his athelism. This will be Nelson’s fourth fight in New York.
This should be a fabulous fight between two boxers with terrific athleticism and natural boxing skills. Not sure why the line is so high other than the fact Andrade may be the more polished boxer overall and has yet to lose. Nelson is more than capable of pulling off the upset here.
However, Andrade is the better boxer and has great defensive skills to go with his offensive attack.
Andrade should remain undefeated after this bout.
