Daniel Geale and Renold Quinlan fight early Friday at the Wests Rugby League Club.
Daniel Geale enters this fight with a 31-4 record that includes 16 knockouts. Geale has split his last six fights and is coming off a June loss to Miguel Cotto. Geale has been a little shaky in his last few fights with knockout losses in two of his last three bouts, but that’s going to happen when someone fights Cotto and Gennady Golovkin. Geale is a big fighter at 5’10” with a reach of 71 inches, and he throws a lot of punches over the course of each round. Geale brings a lot of energy to the ring and wins a lot of fights simply by being the aggressor. The concern with Geale is that he does leave himself open for counters, which is why two of his four losses have been knockouts. Geale has fought much of his career in South Wales, his home.

Renold Quinlan enters this fight with a 10-1 record that includes six knockouts. Quinlan has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a December win over Michael Van Nimwegen. Quinlan has been as busy as he’s ever been in his career, as this will be his sixth fight since 2014, and he hopes to fight in the Olympics. Quinlan is a durable fighter with a strong right hand and his only loss came in 2014 against Jake Carr. While there’s not a ton of notable names on his resume, Quinlan does have upset knockout power as his last three wins have come by the stoppage. This biggest fight of Quinlan’s career yet was a recent win over Ricardo Marcelo Ramallo. Quinlan has fought much of his career in South Wales, his home.
Quinlan has the power to pull off an upset, but that’s about the only reason you’d pick him to win. Geale is the smarter, more experienced and polished boxer. Geale has been in the ring with some of the best, so this bout with a relatively inexperienced fighter is somewhat of a downgrade.
Geale should have no trouble winning this fight.
