TV:

Terry Flanagan and Mzonke Fana fight Saturday at the Manchester Arena for the WBO Lightweight title.

Terry Flanagan enters this fight with a 30-0 record that includes 12 knockouts. This will be Flanagan’s fifth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a March win over Derry Mathews. Flanagan has now proven himself the last couple of years, as the competition has increased and he’s given Mathews two of his 10 losses. Flanagan has some of the quicker hands in the sport and does a great job of mixing in combinations that seem to overwhelm his opponent at times. Turbo rarely gets outworked in the boxing ring and is tough to compete with when he’s aggressive with his offensive attack. This will be Flanagan’s third defense of his WBO Lightweight title. Flanagan has fought his whole career in the United Kingdom, his birthplace.

Terry Flanagan vs. Mzonke Fana Boxing Preview, Pick, Odds, Prediction - 7/9/16

USA TODAY Sports

Mzonke Fana enters this fight with a 38-9 record that includes 16 knockouts. Fana has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a March win over Vusumzi Bokolo. Fana is still rolling despite approaching 43 years old and this will be his eighth fight since 2015. Fana has been boxing for over two decades and will have topped 400 rounds once this bout is finished. Fana is a long fighter with a 70-inch reach and is a smart boxer who doesn’t take much of a pounding. Only two of Fana’s nine losses have resulted in knockouts. Fana doesn’t have much pop, especially at this age, so he’ll have to stay busy and just outbox his opponent. This will be Fana’s second career fight in the United Kingdom.

You have to give Fana credit for still taking on a heavy workload and even being in a position to win the WBO Lightweight title at 42 years old. However, he’s over his head in this bout. Flanagan is too young and too fast for The Rose of Khayelitsha, and he’s going to have a hard time keeping up. Fana’s intelligence and experience will help, but it’s not enough to overcome the speed and youth of Flanagan.

Look for Flanagan to remain undefeated and keep his belt.
