Gamal Yafai and Josh Wale fight Saturday at the First Direct Arena for the Commonwealth (British Empire) super bantamweight title.
Gamal Yafai enters this fight with a 9-0 record that includes four knockouts. This will be Yafai’s sixth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a March win over Bobby Jenkinson. Yafai s quickly climbing up the rankings as one of the top young fighters in the United Kingdom and has the potential to become a star at just 24 years old. Yafai is a very aggressive fighter in the ring, as he throws a lot of punches and lands accurately with some pop. Yafai doesn’t have great knockout power, but he lands a high percentage of his punches and wins rounds by being accurate and aggressive. Yafai has fought his whole career in the United Kingdom, his birthplace.

Josh Wale enters this fight with a 20-8-2 record that includes 11 knockouts. Wale has won four of his last six fights and is coming off a May win over Dmitrijs Gutmans. Wale has had an up and down career for the most part but is still a well known boxer in the UK and enters this bout with a ton of experience and 174 rounds under his belt. Wale is a small boxer at 5’7”, but does a nice job with his head movement and is quite quick overall. Wale likes to dictate the pace of the fight and seems to be at his best when coming forward. Wale also has some power behind his punches and three of his last five wins have come by knockout. Wale has fought his whole career in the United Kingdom, his birthplace.
This will probably be the toughest challenge yet for Yafai, but that’s certainly not saying much. At the end of the day, Wale isn’t anything special and doesn’t have the pure boxing talent that the young Yafai has. Hand speed, power, IQ, Yafai has a lot to like and should continue to climb the rankings for quite some time.
Look for Yafai to remain undefeated.
