The Line Golovkin -800 / Brook +550 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook fight Saturday night at The O2 Arena for WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles.
Gennady Golovkin enters this fight with a 35-0 record that includes 32 knockouts. This will be Golovkin’s fifth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a April win over Dominic Wade. Golovkin has been defending belts for over six years now but faces the ultimate test of fighting a quality fighter in his own house. Golovkin doesn’t need much of an introduction, as he’s arguably the best boxer on the planet and has extreme power in both hands. GGG has had only three of his 35 fights go the distance and it’s simply only a matter of time before he tags his opponent. The only concern with Golovkin is that he’s not hard to hit, however, he's proven he has a solid chin that’s taken punches from above-average boxers. This will be Golovkin’s first fight in the United Kingdom.
USA TODAY Sports
Kell Brook enters this fight with a 36-0 record that includes 25 knockouts. This will be Brook’s fourth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a March win over Kevin Bizier. Brook has been consistently one of the top fighters in the world and has represented England well along with Anthony Joshua. Brook has good fundamentals and a great sense of timing that allow him to land counters and a powerful uppercut. Brook isn’t the knockout machine like his opponent, but his strength and accuracy have to be accounted for or he can be dangerous. Of course, the concern with Brook are the holes in his defense that could cost him against such a power puncher. Brook has fought majority of his career in the United Kingdom, his birthplace.
You can’t take anything from Brook and what he’s done over his career. After all, he was the first to give Shawn Porter a loss. It’s also important to factor in the home crowd, as the O2 Arena gets very loud and will give Brook that extra boost. However, Golovkin is the most feared boxer on the planet right now and has given us no reason to bet against him. He’s just an animal and always has that one round where he completely changes things and hurts his opponent. It won’t be different here with Brook’s issues defensively.
Brook took this fight as a chance to slay the dragon and get momentum back on his side. Unfortunately, he’s going to get a loss on his record.
Give me Golovkin by knockout.
