Bradley-Campbell and Witter-Alexander Should Put On A Nice Show

I have to say I find this Saturday's (8/1/09) Boxing card on Showtime to be not only a pretty interesting one but should be entertaining. As far as betting, it could provide some nice value as well.

The entire card is a statement of where Boxing as a sport is today. Boxing seems to have learned it's lessons from the past and realizes that it is in the best interest of everyone for the best fighters to fight each other and have the best fights. This is a big departure from a few years back when fighters would emerge on the scene and new titles would be created just to give an up and comer a belt and to charge title fight prices to the fans.

When MMA emerged on the scene, and started to take a huge bite out of boxing, it was an awakening for the sport and the end result are cards like this Saturday's.

In the first fight, Junior Witter takes on Devon Alexander for the Junior Lightweight title. Witter was the former champion who lost to Timothy Bradley who is featured in the main event on this card. Alexander was the number one conender Bradley didn't fight and had to surrender the title because of. Alexander is a 1-2 favorite in this tilt while Witter hits the board at +170.

What we have here is a quality fight that should be pretty good. Alexander is the up and comer with the skills, Witter a former champ who knows what it takes.

In the Main Event we have what should be an awesome fight. Timpothy "Desert Storm" Bradley takes on Nate "the Galaxy Warrior" Campbell in a title fight. The 38 year old Campbell is moving up from 135 where he just simply could no longer make the weight.

It's been a wild ride for Campbell as he won his title with a monster upset over Juan "The Bull" Diaz in Cancun then he was slated to fight Joan Guzman and the fight was cancelled by Guzman at the last minute. In his next fight Campbell couldn't make weight but they fought anyway with Campbell getting the win.

Now Campbell should have no problem making 140 but he takes on a very tough Timothy Bradley. After beating the Aforementioned Witter, Bradley fought former champ and ever dangerous Kendall Holt. Holt decked Bradley in the first round and then again in the 12thh but Bradley clearly won a unanimous decision.

With Campbell's career coming to close as he has aged, he is trying get all he can out of it as a career's worth of hard work is paying off. For Bradley he's looking for affirmation of his place in the division. This is a division with some big names and big paydays certainly available but an impressive win for either would br huge for their careers, futures, and more than likely their wallets.

Bradley is fairly heavily favored in this one having to bet 275 dollars to win 100 while a 100 bet on Campbell will win you 225. It should be a gret night of boxing both in the ring and for the sport.
