The Hawaii Warriors visit the mainland to butt heads with the Oregon State Beavers.
Hawaii opened their 2013 slate with a closer than expected 30-13 defeat at the hands of visiting Southern Cal. The Warriors were never in a challenging position in this one, but did play as well as they could, which is testament to being healthy and a bit more experienced than in 2012. This was all about the defense keeping this from getting out of hand, with the Trojans held to 364 yards and turning the ball over twice. The Warriors had a few issues offensively with only 231 total yards and a 4-18 conversion rate on third down. The ground game mustered just 31 yards on 23 carries and Taylor Graham had very little success through the air, going 16-41 for 208 yards and a touchdown with four interceptions.

In one of the biggest upsets of week one, Oregon State was out scored by Eastern Washington 49-46. So much for a top 25 ranking, as the Beavers defense couldn't stop a leak or, more accurately, the Eagles passing attack, that amassed 411 yards. In all actuality, they couldn't stop the run either, with EWU totaling 625 yards. The Beavers took the approach that a good offense is the best defense, with 527 yards of their own and even a near perfect day from Sean Mannion in the air still wasn't enough. Mannion went 37-43 for 422 yards and three touchdowns, with Brandin Cooks hauling in 13 receptions for 196 yards and a pair of scores. The Beavers were grudgingly successful on the ground on 104 yards and nearly 4 1/2 yard average, but OSU had to throw to keep up on the scoreboard.
Despite the Warriors losing to USC, the defense played well with very little help from the offense, while the exact opposite was true for Oregon State, whose defense missed the bus. I would expect the Beavers to be in a foul mood here and win big, but I don't think I'd pay to see.
