The Ohio State Buckeyes head to Cali on Saturday to face the Cal Golden Bears at Memorial Stadium.
The Cal Golden Bears are off to a 1-1 start this season after Cal defeated Portland State on Saturday 37-30. The Bears were in a dogfight with the Vikings, actually trailing Portland State up until about the seven minute mark in the fourth quarter when the Bears took the lead for good. Cal managed to gain 485 yards of offense on the day against the Vikings, but the Golden Bears defense had issues containing Golden State, allowing 308 yards to the Vikings. Cal’s air attack was lighting it up against Portland State, as the Golden Bears put up 485 yards through the air and two scores. Goff is just a freshman at the quarterback spot, but Goff had an impressive stat line, throwing for 485 and two scores with no picks. The Golden Bears are definitely a pass first team, but the ground attack was effective as well against the Vikings, gaining 131 yards, with Bigelow leading the way with 75 yards on the day.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off their latest beatdown, this time their victim was the San Diego State Aztecs. As I’m sure you’re aware if you watched any football at all this past Saturday, Braxton Miller went down with an injury early on. Coming in for Miller was Senior quarterback Kenny Guiton, and Guiton was very effective against the Aztecs, throwing for 152 yards and two scores, against one interception. Guiton was also the leading rusher on the day for Ohio State, gaining 83 yards on just nine attempts, scoring once. As far as backs go, Jordan Hall had a very solid day for the Buckeyes, gaining 75 yards on 13 carries. Defensively, the Buckeyes held their ground once again, holding the Aztecs to 280 yards of offense, while forcing four turnovers on the day. The Buckeyes defense was their lone weak spot a year ago, and even though the Buckeyes haven’t faced that tough of competition as of yet, things do look to be improved in 2013.
Sorry for the delay on the free pick, I was just making sure I had the right line before giving it out.
I'm getting mixed information from my sources about whether or not Miller will play. Either way, it shouldn't matter. The Buckeyes are a good team, not great and giving up more than two touchdowns on the road, at night, two timezones away against a fast paced Cal team is just a bad matchup. The Cal Golden Bears should get an easy cover here, and if you're brave, I would even consider putting a little something on the money line as well as I just don't trust this Buckeye defense and think OSU is overrated as of right now.
