The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Troy Trojans face off on Saturday in college football action.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs haven’t had an easy schedule but they are 1-2 with their only win coming against a FBS opponent. MSU appears to be in control at Auburn last week but they let it get away from them to fall to 0-1 in the SEC as well. Dak Prescott has completed 53.1 percent of his passes wit two touchdowns and an interception and he has rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns as he has stepped in for the injured Tyler Russell. Ashton Shumpert is averaging 4.3 yards per carry with two touchdowns and LaDarius Perkins is averaging 4.3 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Jameon Lewis ahs 10 catches and a touchdown, Robert Johnson has seven catches, and Malcolm Johnson has six catches to lead the Mississippi State receivers. The Bulldogs defense has three interceptions, four sacks, and three fumble recoveries and averaging allowing 351.3 yards per game. Benardrick McKinney and Deonte Skinner have 19 tackles each and Kendrick Market has 14 tackles. Mississippi State just looks like they are a little short of competing week in and week out.

The Troy Trojans are 2-1 on the season this year and are coming off of their first road game and first loss of the year last week at Arkansas State. Troy looks to be loaded on offense racking up points and yards but they face an SEC defense on the road here. QB Corey Robinson has completed 75.5 percent of hi passes for seven touchdowns with three interceptions. Deon Anthony has thrown for 146 yards and a touchdown and he has rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns while Jordan Chunn is averaging 4.9 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Eric Thomas has 14 catches and five touchdowns, Brandon Burks has 14 catches and Bryan Holmes has 13 catches for two touchdowns as the Troy passing attack has been wide open. The Troy Dfense has one interception, nine sacks, and a fumble recovery but they allow nearly 400 yards of offense per game. Camren Hudson has 16 tackles, Tyler Roberts has 14 tackles including 2.5 sacks, and Mark Wilson has 13 tackles. This will be a stiff test for Troy and their toughest opponent to date.
Mississippi State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 5-1 against the spread at home against a team with a winning road record, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games against the Sun Belt. Troy is 5-1 against the spread in their last six non-conference games, 11-5 against the spread against the SEC, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a losing home record.
Mississippi State is the bigger team size wise but I don’t see that being enough to merit a two touchdown spread against a team who can put points on the board. At the very worst Troy covers here.
