The Rice Owls look to even their record at the expense of visiting Florida Atlantic.
Through four games Florida Atlantic has been a cover machine with three straight covers before dropping a 42-35 overtime decision to Middle Tennessee State as a three point dog. I'm sure the Owls would prefer to be a winning machine but the team still needs a few more weapons on offense and as the Blue Raiders proved, you never have enough defense. FAU did hold a 503-446 edge in yardage but they also committed five turnovers. Jonathan Wallace led the ground game with 85 yards on 20 carries and Jaquez Johnson threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns but his two picks were killers.

Rice is a team I thought could make a run at the postseason but there is little room for error with plenty of games that are winnable but also losses if the team doesn't play well. It was more of the latter in a 31-26 defeat to visiting Houston with a missed PAT and two point coversion combining with a lost fumble and interception to make this a game of lost opportunity. In the end the Cougars ran the ball a bit better and made some bigger plays through the air. Charles Ross and Darik Dillard were the heart of the running game with 116 yards on 18 carries while Taylor McHarque threw for 232 yards and spread the ball to eight receivers with Turner Petersen grabbing five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.
The funny thing about Rice is they can play with any one in the conference and lose to any one if they don't play well. I think they have the potential to pound FAU but you never know what side of the bed this team will wake up on so I'll take the points...
