The Idaho Vandals host the #23 Fresno State Bulldogs at the Kibbie Dome Saturday.
Fresno State took a huge lead at Hawaii before taking the fourth quarter off in a 42-37 victory. The Bulldogs had better discover some defense or they will eventually head to a Bowl and get slammed by a team like SMU once again. Sure the Bulldogs were up 42-3 behind 324 passing yards from David Carr but to allow a challenged offense of Hawaii to score 34 consecutive points to close within five with eight minutes left leaves me speechless. I will say that a win is a win but this wasn't the performance of a top 25 team with five turnovers so sorry, can't slap you on the back and say nice job because I'd be lying.

Idaho broke in to the win column for the first time in 2013 as they held off a late Temple rally to record a 26-24 victory. Not a bad performance for a team that has struggled on both sides of the ball thus far as the team played mistake free football and controlled the clock against an up tempo Owls squad. The Vandals totaled 478 yards thanks to a career day from quarterback Chad Chalich who completed 26-43 for 310 yards including a 64 yard touvhdown strike to Richard Montgomery who led the team with 102 yards on five receptions. When Chalich wasn't airing it out he was using his legs to rush for a team high 114 yards on 14 carries. The defense held Temple 410 yards but did give up a 51 yard scoring toss in the fourth which can't happen when trying to close a team out.
Despite what I said about Fresno State I do like this team a lot but I do stand by my comments about their effort versus Hawaii. I think the Bulldogs have the ability to cover the big number versus Idaho but I don't think I'll bet them until I see some better performances...
