The Marshall Thundering Herd head to the Sunshine State to face the Florida Atlantic Owls Saturday.
Florida Atlantic has the look of a better team with an improved defense, although this team is not close to being a Bowl squad. The Owls took a step in the right direction with a 37-23 win at Alabama-Birmingham as a 4 point underdog. FAU received a rare boost from their scoring as well with a huge 579-307 advantage in real estate with strong running and passing. Jacquez Johnson was solid in the air, going 23-36 for 299 yards and a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions, while spreading the ball to eight different receivers. Johnson was productive with his legs as well with 105 yards and a score, including a 54 yard jaunt, while Jonathan Wallace added 117 yards with a TD and a 54 yard run.

When Marshall met Texas-San Antonio in week six, I was not quite sure what to expect, but after just 15 minutes with the Thundering Herd leading 17-0 it was clear which team had too much firepower. Marshall was never threatened in 34-10 victory with a 404-254 yardage edge where the defense intercepted three passes to set up the offense with an easier time of it. The Thundering Herd did not run the ball well with Essray Taliaferro leading the way with 58 yards on 14 totes and a touchdown, but the team as a whole averaged around 2 1/2 yards per touch. Fortunately, Rakeem Cato was strong in the air, completing 22-32 for 279 yards for a pair of touchdowns and zero picks.
The offensive edge is heavily in favor of Marshall and I'm wondering if they just break out and throttle the Owls defense. That's a distinct possibility, even though I'm hoping for something closer then a rout...
