The Florida International Golden Panthers host the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers at FIU Stadium.
At 1-4 it's do or die time for Alabama-Birmingham as the season has already begun to slip away and I don't know if it can be turned around. The Blazers have had two winnable games at Troy and Florida Atlantic and dropped both so a Bowl berth can't be discussed until the team wins a few games. The boxscore told the story of Saturday's 37-23 loss to FAU where a challenged Owls offense racked up 579 yards split between the run and pass. The Blazers mustered just 307 yards with 51 rushing yards and a passing attack that misfired too often. Austin Brown completed 18-33 for 256 yards and apair of touchdowns with Darrin Reaves posting five catches for 82 yards as well as leading the team with 48 rushing yards.

Florida International is a shell of the team that broke on to the national scene a few years ago. The Golden Panthers are near the bottom nationally in most offensive categories and are allowing 42 points which describes the defense although the numbers have to be skewered a bit with a tough early schedule that featured Maryland, UCF and Louisville. Not so to tough was Southern Mississippi who FIU squeaked by 24-23 in week six as two touchdown underdogs. Both teams churned out 300+ yards but the Golden Eagles lost a pair of fumbles and were picked off twice. Silas Spearman ran for a game high 136 yards and a pair of scores while EJ Hilliard and Jake Medlock combined to go 13-23 for 181 yards with Medlock having a seat after throwing a pair of interceptions.
I see the Blazers as a seven point road favorite and I cringe but I suppose there is good reason they are favored. I'm taking the points but guarantee I won't be betting this one...
