The Syracuse Orange travel to North Carolina State to play the Wolfpack on Saturday.

Syracuse fell to 2-3 on the year after getting destroyed 49-14 against Clemson at home on Saturday. Syracuse lost their first two games to Penn State and Northwestern before winning two straight games against subpar teams in Wagner and Tulane. In the loss to Syracuse, the Orange produced 397 yards of offense, with only 74 yards coming thru the air. QB Hunt was terrible, completing 8 of 24 passes for 52 yards and 3 interceptions. WR Broyld was limited to 5 catches for 64 yards. The lone bright spot offensively was RB Smith, who rushed 18 times for 125 yards and a score. Hunt has thrown for 520 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. Smith has rushed for 342 yards and 7 touchdowns, while Broyld has caught a team high 24 passes for 219 yards for the Orange this season. The Orange allowed Clemson to gain 624 yards on offense, with 468 coming thru the passing game. Syracuse did force 2 turnovers but had no answer for Tajh Boyd and the Clemson offensive attack. Syracuse ranks 70th in points allowed with 27.4 a game and 47th in points scored per game with 32.8. The Orange rank 75th in the country in passing yards with 225 and 47th with 192 rushing yards per contest. Syracuse will have their work cut out for them when they head into a hostile environment at North Carolina State this weekend.

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Syracuse Orange Free Pick 10/12/13

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The North Carolina State Wolfpack fell to 3-2 on the year after losing at Wake Forest 28-13 on Saturday. The Wolfpack opened up the season with a pair of wins before losing at home to Clemson. NC State bounced back against Central Michigan two weeks ago before losing to the Demon Deacons on Saturday. In the loss to Wake Forest, NC State produced 372 yards of total offense. QB Thomas completed 27 of 43 passes for 257 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 costly interceptions. Thomas also rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries. WR Payton caught 6 balls for 98 yards, while WR Underwood had a team high 11 catches for 64 yards in the loss. Thomas has thrown for an impressive 1,163 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while rushing for 153 and two touchdowns as well. WR Underwood and WR Smith have a combined 45 catches for 510 yards receiving and 1 touchdown this season. The Wolfpack rank 32nd in points allowed at 20 points per game while scoring 27 points a game which ranks them 78th in the country. NC State is 52nd in passing yards and 52nd in rushing yards nationwide this season. The Wolfpack will head home in an effort to bounce back and earn their first win in conference play.

Syracuse is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 road games. NC State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. The over is 4-0-1 in Syracuse’s last 5 road games and the under is 8-1 in NC State’s last 9 home games.

North Carolina State has won the two most recent meetings between these two schools, but those wins came back in the late 1990’s. Syracuse has shown that they are extremely vulnerable to the pass defensively, considering in all three of their losses they have been outgained significantly in the passing game. This will be a problem for the Orange as they face NC State’s QB Thomas and a solid receiving unit for the Wolfpack. Syracuse loves to run the ball on offense, but they will face a physical and talented front seven against NC State this weekend. I believe NC State will bounce back on Saturday and win this game by at least a touchdown.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE -4.5
