The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Arkansas Razorbacks face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa for an SEC football battle involving teams at opposite ends of the spectrum in the NCAA Football landscape.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are ranked number one in the country and after winning back to back National Championships they control their own destiny when it comes to a three-peat. The Alabama offense simply doesn’t beat themselves as they are averaging 38.8 points and 448.5 yards per game, while turning the ball over just six times. Tide QB A.J. McCarron has been there before and he is completing 68.9 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. T.J. Yeldon anchors the Bama running game, averaging 6.5 yards per carry with six touchdowns and Kenyan Drake is averaging 7.3 yards per carry with five touchdowns. Alabama’s receivers are led by Christion Jones with 23 catches and two touchdowns, DeAndrew White has 19 catches and three touchdowns, and Kevin Norwood has 16 catches with two touchdowns, while Amari Copper has caught 12 passes thus far this season. Defensively, Alabama has allowed 11.3 points and 278.2 yards per game with four interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 10 sacks. C.J. Mosley is the Crimson Tide’s leading tackler with 48, while Vinnie Sunseri has two interceptions, and A’Shawn Robinson has four sacks. The bad news for Alabama’s opponents is they seem to just be getting better every week.

The Arkansas Razorbacks have lost four games in a row and after starting the season 3-0 it is quickly getting away from them. Offensively, the Hogs are averaging 23.3 points and 370.9 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 11 times. Arkansas QB Brandon Allen has completed just 48.1 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Alex Collins leads the Razorbacks ground attack, averaging 5.9 yards per carry with five touchdowns and Jonathan Williams averages 6.5 yards per carry with four touchdowns. Javontee Herndon is Arkansas’ leading pass catcher with 18 receptions and Hunter Henry has 14 catches. Defensively, Arkansas allows 27.6 points and 367.7 yards per game with four interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and 20 sacks. Jarett Lake has 51 tackles, Braylon Mitchell has 46 tackles, and Alan Turner has 45 tackles. While the Arkansas defense looked soft before the season started, the offense isn’t looking any better at this point.
Alabama is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 home games, 0-4 against the spread following a game where they covered the spread, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record. Arkansas is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven SEC games, 1-11 against the spread in their last 12 road games, and 3-7 against the spread following a loss. The favorite has covered the spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Arkansas is going in reverse, getting worse by the week and Alabama seems to be putting it together and hitting their stride for the second half of the season. Look for Alabama to roll here as the Hogs look loost and just have no answers right now.
