The Utah State Aggies head to University Stadium where the New Mexico Lobos await in week eight action.
Utah State is obviously a different team without Chuckie Keeton who could not only do everything but could do it well. The Aggies fell to visiting Boise State 34-23 to drop to 3-4 on the season and the question is whether this team can regroup and finish strong for a possible postseason berth. The offense mustered 348 yards and struggled to 127 rushing yards with barely over three yards per carry with Robert Marshall leading the way with 69 yards on 19 carries. The passing game turned out to be a two man show with Darell Garretson and Craig Harrison combining to go 16-33 for 221 yards with Harrison throwing for a score and a pair of interceptions with one brought back for six. In the end the Aggies missed their star quarterback in what might have been a closer game with him.

I know New Mexico isn't going to qualify for the postseason but I do like the way this team plays. The Lobos might not have the talent to compete with some teams but they play hard for 60 minutes which I admire although it doesn't always show up in the win column. That was what we saw in a 38-31 loss to a pretty good Wyoming in which the Lobos couldn't stop Brett Smith who had a hand in over 375 yards. UNM did what they do best and that's run the ball with with 257 yards and a five yard average which led to over 35 minutes of possession. Kasey Carrier and Cole Gautsche combined for 217 yards with Gautsche throwing for 156 yards for a touchdown and interception which is a great performance for an offense that seldom throws.
Interesting game here with New Mexico obviously going to play keep away with a very good runniing game. I think this could be closer then what most expect so I will side with the points...
