The Kent State Golden Flashes look for a road win at the South Alabama Jaguars Saturday.
Kent State missed out on a great chance to reverse their fortunes in 2013 with a late 27-24 defeat Ball State. The Golden Flashes fell to 2-5 on the season and can ill afford another loss so essentially they have to win from here on out to have a shot at a postseason berth. Those chances took a hit when Ball State scored a TD with less then a 90 seconds left for the win. The boxscore was as close as the game with both teams accumulating over 400 yards with the Cardinals doing their damage in the air and the Golden Flashes on the ground. KSU ran for 233 yards with Trayion Durham and Colin Reardon combining for 148 yards while Reardon threw for another 166 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception.

Although the Jaguars have a better record then Kent State they are in the same boat in that they have to string the wins together with a rather difficult schedule ahead of them. South Alabama could have been in much bettter shape were it not for a 34-33 loss to Troy where the Trojans won on a 20 yard TD pass with seven ticks left. USA held a sizeable 630-424 advantage in yardage with Ross Metheny and Brandon Bridge accounting for almost everything. Both combined for 109 rushing yards and completed 26-41 for 471 yards and a touchdown apiece. The defense deserves to shoulder this defeat with Troy getting the ball with just 48 seconds left and still managing to move down the field and score despite controlling the Trojans offense overall.
South Alabama has been a cover machine at 4-1 ATS but Kent State with Archer back is a solid team and getting a touchdown is just too much for me to pass up...
