TV: FOX Sports

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders host the Marshall Thundering Herd in CUSA East action.

Marshall has been able to score a ton of points and prevent opponents from doing the same which has them looking at a 4-2 record and 2-0 mark in the conference. The Thundering Herd needed a big effort from their defense to down a stubborn Florida Atlantic 24-23 heading in to their bye on a positive note. The offensively challenged Owls outgained Marshall 395-355 with the Thundering Herd also benefitting from a 77 yard punt return from Devon Smith. Essray Taliaferro and Rakeem Cato gave the rushing attack some production with 90 yards on 17 totes with Cato struggling a bit through the air with an 18-34 performance for 216 yards with Marshall winning it on a 41 yard field with six seconds remaining.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Marshall Thundering Herd Pick-Odds-Prediction - 10/24/13

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Middle Tennessee State won three of four to kick off the 2013 campaign but have struggled since with a three game slide. Points have been at a premium in this stretch and that trend continued in a 34-7 defeat at North Texas. The Mean Green led 24-7 at the break and the Blue Raiders never challenged with the offense totaling just over 200 yards. The ground game was productive with 139 yards and just over five yards per tote with Austin Grammer pacing the run with 115 yards but the scoreboard dictated MTSU abandon the run and go to the air. That option wasn't very productive with Grammer completting 6-22 for 36 yards and an interception with Logan Kilgore (8-8/30) held to very short gains when they needed to get the ball down field.

I think Middle Tennessee is better then they've shown if they get solid play at quarterback. Marshall has loads of potential offensively and are improved defensively so gun to my head I would take the visitors...

Marshall -8.5
