The Rice Owls look to continue their winning ways when they face the North Texas Mean Green at Apogee Stadium.
It's been awhile since Rice has enjoyed the success they are seeing in 2013 and I'm waiting to see if it can continue. However, that's what happens when you can score and defend which the Owls have been doing during their current four game winning streak. Rice knocked off conference rival Texas El Paso 45-7 by jumping on the out manned Miners for a 24-7 lead at the break and never giving them a hint of being vulnerable. The Owls dominated real estate with 524-364 with the ability to run or throw as desired while UTEP ran the ball at times but were forced in to three turnovers. Rice totaled 265 rushing yards and averaged over 5 1/2 yards per touch with Charles Ross leading the way with 152 yards on 21 totes with a trip to the end zone. Taylor McHargue was just 8-19 through the air but for 259 yards and four scores including 60 and 72 yard strikes.

North Texas has transformed from a team that preferred to keep the ball on the ground and grind things out in to one that has become dependent on the pass. The Mean Green did a little of everything in a 55-14 victory at Southern Mississippi with Reggie Pegram and Brandin Byrd combining for 135 yards on 39 carries with a pair of touchdowns each. The ground game was more of a four yards and a cloud of dust attack but the passing of Derek Thompson was explosive. Thompson completed 18-27 for 300 yards with a pair of scores and two picks with Brelan Chancellor snaring four balls for 127 yards including a 46 yard TD. UNT won easily but did have four turnovers whiich evened out with the Golden Eagles losing a pair of fumbles and throwing three interceptions.
I am leary with Rice because I get the feeling they might be due for a stinker against a Mean Green squad who is playing well. Having said that, the Owls have been getting it done as well and right now I'll take the points...
