Southern Mississippi is experiencing some of the same problems they've had the last few years in that points have been difficult to come by while opponents have been frequent visitors to the end zone which explains their 0-7 record. That trend didn't change in a 55-14 loss to visiting North Texas where the Mean Green dominated total yardage 529-249. UNT was sloppy with four turnovers but were able to over come them while Southern Miss gave the ball away five times and didn't get away with a thing. George Payne and his ninne carry, 44 yard effort with a touchdown was the bright spot for the offense as USM didn't do anything on the ground otherwise and Nick Mullens (12-31/210) struggled to connect with receivers with a score and three picks.

Mean while the swiss cheese defense gave up a nine yard TD pass with no time left as the Blue Raiders moved the ball unopposed for 60 minutes.
Marshall has obviously far better numbers and if they correct some of their defensive breakdowns the potential to cover the four touchdowns lies with them. Having said that I did say if and the potential to cover...
