The Michigan Wolverines head to Spartan Stadium on Saturday to face the Michigan State Spartans.
The Michigan State Spartans improved to 7-1 on the season this past weekend as the Spartans dismantled the Illinois Fighting Illini 42-3. The Spartans were on let down watch this past weekend with Michigan coming to town, but MSU did what they should, and that’s beat up on a weaker opponent. The Spartans currently have sole possession of first place in the Legends division in the Big Ten, but with a win on Saturday the Wolverines could claim that spot, owning the tie breaker over MSU. The Spartans put on a show this past weekend against the Illini, holding Illinois to 128 total yards on the day, while gaining 477 of their own. The offense has been suspect at times this season for the Spartans, but this past weekend MSU was on point as Connor Cook completed 15/16 for 208 yards and three scores against the Illini defense, while the running game for the Spartans contributed 269 yards on the ground. Defensively the Spartans are among the best in the nation, and with the performance they put on this past weekend, they are earning that title every week.

The Michigan Wolverines head to Spartan Stadium on Saturday with a chance to claim first place in the Legends division. The Wolverines had this past weekend off to prepare, but after watching film on the Spartans, especially their defense, the Wolverines have to be a bit concerned here. Michigan is coming off a 63-47 win over the Hoosiers two weeks ago. The Wolverines put up a crazy 751 yards of total offense against the Hoosiers weak defensive unit, but defensively the Wolverines were gashed for 572 on the day. The Wolverine offense is solid, but does sputter at times, but still the Wolverines are ranked eighth in the nation, averaging 42.4 points per game. Gardner has been outstanding under center for the Wolverines, but Michigan needs to find a back to step up as Gardner cannot be expected to carry the load, both through the air and on the ground for this team. Currently Fitz Toussaint is leading the team in rushing, but just by 55 yards over Gardner, on 60 more attempts.
The total has gone over in six of the last eight games for Michigan, and the Wolverines are just 5-13-1 against the spread in their last 19 road games. The Spartans are 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games, but the Spartans are just 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games at Spartan Stadium.
I’m going to take the Spartans in this spot. The Wolverine offense is impressive, and can be very fun to watch, but this Spartan defense is just awesome. The Wolverines will get some yards and points against MSU, but the Spartans come into this game playing their best football of the season, and against the Wolverines at home, you know they will be up for this one.
