The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in Columbia for a SEC college football battle.

The South Carolina Gamecocks never quit last Saturday as they fought back from their own mistakes and a 17 point deficit to down Missouri in double overtime. South Carolina will need to win and need help to win the SEC East but so far their offense is averaging 31.9 points and 475.1 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 15 times this season. Connor Shaw limed into last week’s game in relief and rallied the Gamecocks to the win and for the season he has completed 64.4 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and just one interception. Mike Davis had two key fumbles last week and he is banged up but he has rushed for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns and he has caught 27 passes out of the backfield. Bruce Ellington has 31 catches and five touchdowns to lead the South Carolina receivers, Damiere Byrd has 23 catches, and Nick Jones has 21 catches. Defensively South Carolina allows 22.9 points and 350.2 yards per game with six interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 17 sacks. Jimmy Legree has 34 tackles, Kelcy Quarles has 7.0 sacks, and Jadeveon Clowney is coming off of his best game of the season. South Carolina has no margin for era left.

South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs Pick-Odds-Prediction 11/2/13

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are hovering just over the .500 mark and are coming off of a win last Thursday against Kentucky. The MSU offense is averaging 30.1 points and 456 yards per game and they have turned the ball over just six times. Dak Prescot is seeing the bulk of the action at QB these days completing 57.3 percent of his passes fir 1,158 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions and he has rushed for 490 yards and eight touchdowns. LaDarius Perkins has rushed for 338 yards and a touchdown and he has caught 14 passes out of the backfield. Mississippi State’s leading receiver is Jameon Lewis who has 30 catches and four touchdowns followed by Robert Johnson with 16 receptions. The Mississippi State defense allows 22.9 points and 358.9 yards per game with five interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and nine sacks. Bernardrick McKinney has 46 tackles, Deontae skinner has 45 tackles, and Nickoe Whitley has three interceptions. The Bulldogs just haven’t been able to get over the hump to take the program to the next level.

South Carolina is 9-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 1-5 against the spread following a win, and 0-5 against the spread following a game in which they covered the point spread. Mississippi State is 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight SEC games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last eight road games. The home team has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.

This is a bunch of points and after South Carolina’s very public win last week the like may be just a bit heavy so while I like South Carolina to win, by 11 points or less makes a lot more sense to me.
