The Syracuse Orange had the week off after getting blown out against Georgia Tech two weeks ago, 56-0. Syracuse is 3-4 overall, 1-2 ACC, and the Orange are 2-2 at home this season. The Orange rank 82nd in points scored this season, averaging just less than 27 points per game. In the game against Georgia Tech, QB Terrel Hunt completed 7 of 14 passes for 68 yards with an interception. QB Drew Allen took over in the second half and completed 6 of 15 passes for 65 yards with an interception. Hunt has thrown for 662 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Allen has thrown for 637 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Ashton Broyld leads the team in receiving with 30 catches for 294 yards, while WR West has chipped in with 13 catches for 242 yards and 1 touchdown. The rushing attack is led by Jerome Smith, who has 525 yards on 99 carries with 8 touchdowns for the Orange this season. The Syracuse defense that gave up 56 to Georgia Tech and 48 to Clemson at home is ranked 74th in points allowed, giving up 29 points per game this season. Syracuse will be well rested and prepared to bounce back against Wake Forest this weekend.
Wake Forest is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Syracuse is 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss.
Wake Forest is coming off a hard fought loss down in Miami, while Syracuse is well rested after getting blown out against Georgia Tech two weeks ago. Wake Forest has the better defense but Syracuse should be able to move the ball on the ground against Wake Forest. However, with two below average quarterbacks playing for Syracuse, the Demon Deacons may stack the box up front and focus on stopping the run. Syracuse can’t become one-dimensional or they will be in deep trouble in this game. If Syracuse can run the ball early and often I think they bounce back with a win at home. I think this may be a possible letdown spot for Wake Forest. I’ll take Syracuse to win at home by a touchdown.
