The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders look to stay in the postseason conversation with a win at Alabama-Birmingham.
Middle Tennessee State looks for their second straight win following a 51-49 shootout victory over visiting Marshall. Defense was optional with MTSU racking up 585 yards with Logan Kilgore hitting Tavarres Jefferson with a nine yard scoring strike with no time remaining for the final margin. The Blue Raiders did whatever they wanted with over 300 rushing yards with Jordon Parker and Reggie Whatley combining for 231 yards on 37 carries. Logan Kilgore completed 22-40 for 277 yards and four touchdowns and an interception. The special teams scored on a blocked punt but the Thundering Herd and Rakeem Cato simply scored at every chance as well.

Alabama-Birmingham has shown some scoring punch in 2012 but finding enough stops on defense hasn't been a strength. That was certainly obvious when the Blazers dropped a 52-31 decision at Texas-San Antonio on Saturday. Even the highly capable UAB attack had their backs against the wall as they faced a 38-14 hole after only 30 minutes. Both teams rolled up over 500 yards of offnse with the big difference being UAB gave the ball away three times and the Roadrunners were mistake free. The Blazers ran the ball well with Jordan Howard, Darrin Reaves and Jonathan Perry combining for 215 yards on 31 carries. Perry (15-28/209) and Austin Brown (8-15/108) gave the Blazers plenty of firepower in the air with Jamarcus Nelson hauling in five balls for 101 yards but an interception each didn't help a defense that was not getting stops.
Not a real great feel for this one but if Kilgore is on against this Blazers defense this won't be pretty. Right now I'll take the points but might have more interest for the total when it comes out...
