The Miami Hurricanes travel to Duke to play the Blue Devils on Saturday.
Miami dropped to 7-2 overall, 3-2 ACC, after losing at home to Virginia Tech 42-24 last weekend. Miami was a perfect 7-0 before getting blown out at Florida State and then coming back home and getting their butts kicked against the Hokies. Miami gained 352 total yards against Virginia Tech, with only 28 yards coming on the ground. Playing without RB Duke Johnson, out for the season with a broken right ankle, Miami struggled offensively. QB Morris completed 16 of 29 passes for 324 yards with 2 touchdowns. WR Hurns caught 4 balls for a whopping 142 yards and 1 touchdown for the Hurricanes. Morris has thrown for 1,979 and 14 touchdowns this season, while Hurns has caught 37 balls for 732 yards for the Miami. Miami is averaging 35 points per game, which ranks 33rd in the country. Miami fumbled a punt return, a kickoff return, and had a punting miscue that Virginia Tech was able to cash in on. The Hokies outgained Miami 549-352, piled up 26 first downs to Miami’s 12, went 8-for-14 on third down compared with a 3-for-12 showing by the Hurricanes, and held the ball for nearly a 2-to-1 margin. The Hurricanes defense is giving up 23 points per game this year, which ranks 41st in the nation. Miami will try to get back on track on the road where they are 2-1 this season.

The Duke Blue Devils improved to 7-2 overall, 3-2 ACC, after beating NC State 38-20 at home last weekend. Duke started the season off 2-2, but has won 5 straight games and is red hot right now. Duke produced 412 yards against NC State, but turned the ball over 4 times. QB Boone completed 13 of 21 passes for 139 yards and 3 interceptions. WR Crowder caught 7 balls for 134 yards for the Blue Devils. Boone has thrown for 1,061 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Crowder has caught 67 balls for 903 yards and 3 touchdowns this year. The Blue Devils rank 434rd in points scored, averaging over 33 points per game this season. The Blue Devils allowed 321 total yards against the Wolfpack and forced four turnovers in the win. Devon Edwards scored three touchdowns, two on interception returns in a span of 16 seconds to help Duke secure their first winning season in nearly two decades. Duke ranks 33rd in points allowed, allowing just over 22 points per game this season. The Blue Devils will stay at home where they are 4-2 on the season.
Miami has won the last two meetings with Duke, including a 7 point win at Duke last year. Miami is a mess right now, with several injuries to key players and coming off two blowout losses in back to back weeks. It’s hard to see the Hurricanes turning things around on the road against a Duke team that is playing great football right now. I think Duke will win this game straight up, but I’ll take the points with the home team.
