The South Alabama Jaguars go on the road to face the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday.
South Alabama went in to their by week on a 17-16 loss to visiting Arkansas State that put their Bowl hopes in jeopardy with a 3-5 record with four games to play. The Jaguars have now dropped back to back contests by a grand total of three points with the offense shouldering the blame in this one. USA held a slight yardage edge 371-349 and were only 3-14 on third down conversions. The Jaguars were able to run at times behind Ross Metheny's 77 yard, 17 carry effort with Jay Jones adding 44 yards on eleven totes. Metheny missed on some throws, going 15-29 for 228 yards and an interception as USA did not make plays at crucial times.

It's been business as usual for the Midshipmen with their option piling up nearly 307 yards per contest which is number six in the game. The rushing attack was even better then usual in a 42-28 victory over a stubborn Hawaii club. The Warriors hung with a balanced attack but this game belonged to the Middies rushing attack with Keenan Reynolds enjoying a career afternoon. Navy piled up 383 yards on the ground and averaged over six yards per touch with Reynolds romping for 226 yards on 26 carries with four trips to the end zone including a 67 yard scoring jaunt. Reynolds did a little bit of damage through the air as well with a 4-8 effort for 59 yards with a 26 yard TD toss to Geoffrey Whiteside.
My thinking here is the Navy option has been rolling and South Alabama hasn't seen it before which is difficult to prepare for and USA might need points. I hate backing the Midshipmen as favorites and might reconsider later in the week...
