The 7-2 Cincinnati Bearcats visit the 5-3 Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a key AAC matchup Saturday at noon on ESPNnews.

Cincinnati moved to 4-1 in conference play this weekend with a 28-25 squeaker win over SMU that saw the Bearcats blow a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter before clamping down and forcing a SMU stop late to seal the game.  Cinnci opened up a 28-10 lead in this one behind a solid showing from Brandon Kay through the air -- Kay threw for 299 yards and 2 touchdowns and connected with six different receivers for the contest.  On the ground, the Bearcats were led by Hosey Williams 90 yards but got two seperate TD’s from tailbacks Green and Luallen.  The Bearcats were unable to force any turnovers in this contest and appeared vulnerable to the pass late in the game despite being in a fairly soft cover defense.  With the narrow victory, Cincinnati remains in the mix for at least a share of the conference title -- an all too familiar spot for the Bearcats.

Rob Leifheit-USA TODAY Sports

Rutgers comes into this one off of a much needed bye.  Prior to their week off, the Scarlet Knights broke a two game losing streak by narrowly defeating a struggling Temple team 23-20.  After falling behind 20-16 midway through the fourth quarter, the Scarlet Knights rallied and stole the game on a late Gary Nova to Leonte Carroo TD pass from 33 yards out with 0:35 remaining on the clock.  Carroo finished with 147 yards and 2 TD’s to lead all receivers and Gary Nova bounced back from some horrible recent showings to throw for 3 TD’s and no picks.  The Scarlet Knights were flagged for 75 penalty yards, something they will need to work on as they make a final push towards bowl eligibility.

Cincinnati has won four games in a row and are really starting to mesh on both sides of the ball.  The Bearcats have also won both their road contests in conference play.  I like Brandon Kay and Hosey Williams to be the difference here and expect the Bearcat D to rattle Gary Nova in the pocket as Cinnci gets the road win and the cover.

Cincinnati -2.5
