The Georgia State Panthers look for their first victory when they visit the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
Suffice to say that Georgia State's foray in to Division I football hasn't been a good one but nobody expected much in their first season. Not enough scoring or defense has been an issue although the Panthers have been reasonably competitive at times and cover like nobodies business. They gave Sun Belt power Louisiana-Lafayette a tough battle before falling 35-21 behind a rare big yardage game that finished south of 500 yards. A pair of turnovers and a few times coming up empty in the red zone were daggers in the heart with the Ragin' Cajuns moving the chains easily with 495 yards. Albert Wilson led six other runners with 64 yards and caught eight passes for 57 yards and a TD. Ronnie Bell threw for 229 yards and two scores with a pick while Ben McLane tossed for 69 yards but finding the end zone often enough proved to be fruitless.

Perhaps Arkansas State is finally in a groove which many had expected throughout the season. The Red Wolves are heating up with a three game winning streak after handing Texas State a 38-21 defeat. This one was 21-21 after two quarters before ASU dominated both sides of the ball over the final 30 minutes before finishing with a 424-368 edge in total yards. The Red Wolves strength is on the ground and they piled up 328 yards behind Michael Gordon's 19 carry, 184 yard performance with a trio of TD's while Adam Kennedy added another 78 yards. Kennedy was deadly efficient through the air 14-18 effort producing 96 yards and a touchdown with an interception which was an extention of the rushing attack and kept the clock ticking.
Georgia State has been a cover team and my first reaction was to take my chances with the points. Having said that, I'm taking the home team who seems to be picking up steam at the right time...
