The Michigan State Spartans head to Ryan Field on Saturday to square off against the struggling Northwestern Wildcats.
The Northwestern Wildcats have had a collapse for the ages this season as the Wildcats were once in the top 20 of the league, and since have dropped six straight. It’s hard to put a finger on what exactly happened to this team. Besides the many injuries of course, that one’s obvious. Still, this team is more or less healthy now (although Mark is still listed as questionable for Saturday). I really like Fitz as a coach and have been saying all along that he is one of the better coaches in the nation. The Wildcats have been competitive in some of these games, and to be fair the schedule has been brutal, playing all of the top teams in the Big Ten, a lot of them on the road. The Wildcats need this win if they hope to make it to a bowl game this season, so expect the Wildcats to play like their hair is on fire here.

The Michigan State Spartans continue rolling through the conference as the Spartans control their own way to the Big Ten title game. The Spartans, as we all have heard a thousand times have an excellent defense, but the offense is starting to come around as well. Don’t get me wrong, Sparty is still heavy on the defensive side here, but Cook is looking better and better under center, and that’s a good sign for this team. The Spartans will be in for another test this weekend as they will be meeting a tough Northwestern team that wants nothing more to get back into the win column, and what better way to do it than knock of MSU. This is also a tough spot for Michigan State as this is back to back road games for the Spartans as MSU defeated the Huskers in Lincoln last Saturday.
The Michigan State Spartans have been a solid play this season, going 6-3 against the spread on the year. THE Spartans are also playing well on the road as a favorite, going 2-0 ATS this year.
The Wildcats are just 3-7 against the spread this season, and as an underdog, the Wildcats are only 1-3 ATS. Also, when playing at Ryan Field, the Wildcats are only 1-5 against the spread this year.
I’m going to back the Wildcats in this spot. Northwestern has played better than their record shows, and this team is hungry for a win. The Spartans believe it or not may be overlooking the Wildcats a bit after coming back from Nebraska with a win this past weekend.
I don’t know if the Wildcats will be able to get the outright upset win over the Spartans, but getting more than a touchdown at home looks like the side to be on here.
