The Line: Houston Cougars -9.5 -- Over/Under: 64 See the Latest Odds

The Houston Cougars and the SMU Mustangs face off on Saturday in college football action.

The Houston Cougars have had a solid season and with a win in this game they could have an eight-win season. UH has lost their last three games in a row as they entered that stretch at 7-1. John O’Korn has completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Ryan Jackson has rushed for 593 yards and five touchdowns and Kenneth Farrow has rushed for 459 yards and five touchdowns. Deontay Greenberry has 76 receptions and 10 touchdowns to lead the Houston receivers and Daniel Spencer has 43 catches and five touchdowns. Efrem Oliphant has 111 tackles and three sacks, Derick Mathews has 99 tackles and six sacks, and Trevon Stewart and Adrian McDonald have four interceptions each. Houston is averaging 33.9 points and 427.7 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 22 points and 431.4 yards per game. Houston has been one of the best teams against the spread in the country.

The SMU Mustangs need to win at least one of their last two games to go to a bowl game this season. SMU hosts nationally ranked UCF next week so this might be their better chance to become bowl eligible. Garrett Gilbert appears to be out for this one so it should be Neal Burcham who has completed 56.5 percent of his passes with one touchdown and one interception. K.C. Niemichi is SMU’s leading rusher with 238 yards and Prescott Line has 233 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremy Johnson has 100 receptions with six touchdowns, Darius Joseph has 88 catches and five touchdowns, and Keenan Holman has 59 catches and eight touchdowns. Randall Joyner leads the Mustangs defense with 83 tackles, Kevin Pope has 76 tackles with three sacks, and Stephon Sanders as 70 tackles. Without Gilbert the task at hand gets more difficult for SMU.

Houston is 11-2 against the spread in their last 13 games, 4-1 against the spread following a loss, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven conference games. SMU is 5-1 against the spread in their last six conference games, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record, and 4-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. The home team has covered the spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.

The total looks to be slightly high and I can see this one staying under and that is my free pick. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as make it available on the App.
