The Texas State Bobcats finish the season on the road when they face the Troy Trojans for the first time.
Texas State could have locked up a winning record with a win in their last two contests but instead dropped both and need to knock off Troy on the road to assure themselves of this goal. Neither side of the ball has come up big in either game with a 38-7 home loss to visiting Western Kentucky surprisingly one sided. However when looking at the numbers it becomes clear why the Bobcats struggled. Western Kentucky won the battle for real estate 473-130 with the Bobcats turning the ball over five times...game over. Texas State failed to establish the run with 40 yards and the passing attack was mistake prone. Tyler Arndt went 1-5 for five yards and three interceptions while Tyler Jones completed 14-25 for a TD and another pick.

Troy has a reputation of playing some tough non conference games unlike many teams who schedule weak opposition to pad their record. Unfortunately the Trojans are 0-3 versus Mississippi State, Duke and Mississippi which has them looking at a 5-6 record heading in to the final week of the season. Ole Miss throttled Troy 51-21 in week 12 which in essence was a poor match up for a weak defense. The Rebels racked up over 750 yards while bottling up the Troy attack and holding them to 313 yards and 15 first downs while eliminating the rushing game. That put the pressure of moving the chains completely on the shoulders of Corey Robinson who connected on 24-36 for 258 yards and an interception.
Troy has had an extra week off to lick their wounds from their loss to Mississippi while Texas State looks to avoid three consecutive defeats to end the year. I'm looking at Troy right now if their defense can plug some holes for a change...
