TV: ESPN

The Washington State Cougars and the Colorado State Rams kick off College Football Bowl season as they face off on Saturday in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.

The Washington State Cougars didn’t take advantage of all of their opportunities this season but still they took advantage of enough of them to land in a bowl game. WSU won two of their last three games but the loss to Washington in the Apple Cup dropped Wazzu to 4-5 in the Pac-12 for the season. Connor Halliday has completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 4,187 yards with 28 touchdowns and 21 interceptions . Marcus Mason has rushed for 424 rushing yards and 49 receptions as WSU is a pass first offense. Gabe Marks has 69 catches and six touchdowns and Kristoff Williams has 44 catches. Deone Bucannon has 109 tackles and 5 interceptions to lead the Washington State defense, Justin Sagote has 91 tackles, and Darryl Monroe has 81 tackles. Washington State averages 29.8 points and 423.2 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 31.2 points and their opponents are averaging 446.8 yards per game. Getting back to a bowl is a first step for WSU coach Mike Leach but he has bigger goals for the future of the program.

Colorado State Rams vs. Washington State Cougars New Mexico Bowl Pick, Odds, Prediction 12/21/13

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado State Rams won three of their last four games as they return to a bowl with a full head of steam. Most of CSU’s wins were against teams with losing records so this is a step up for them. Garrett Grayson has completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Kapri Bibbs has rushed for 1,572 yards and 28 touchdowns. Richard Higgins leads Colorado State with 64 receptions and six touchdowns and Joe Hansley has 48 receptions. Max Morgan has 129 tackles, Aaron Davis has 113 tackles, and Shaquil Barrett has 74 tackles and 12 sacks. Colorado State is averaging 35.3 points and 461.2 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 28.6 points and their opponents are averaging 417.5 yards per game. It has been feast or famine for Colorado State as either they have put up big points or next to nothing.

Washington State is 5-1 against the spread following a loss, 10-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-1-1 against the spread against the Mountain West. Colorado State is 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games, 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 games, and 3-7 against the spread against the Pac-12.

The total is set at 65 and the over looks to be almost too easy here but I am going to take the over as my free pick. I also have a pick on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
