Louisville Cardinals (11-1) vs. Miami Hurricanes (9-3)

The Line: Louisville Cardinals -3.5 -- Over/Under: 57 See the Latest Odds

The Miami Hurricanes and the Louisville Cardinals face off on Saturday in the Belk Bowl.

The Miami Hurricanes had expectations of going to a bowl game this season and while they may have fallen a bit short of where they had hoped to be, after sitting out the last two years despite being bowl eligible the Canes have to like being back. Stephen Morris has a cannon arm at QB but he seems to go into funks throwing poor passes and making bad decisions while at other times he looks like a QB that is NFL ready. Duke Johnson went down with an injury and since then Dallas Crawford, Gus Edwards, and Eduardo Clements have all pitched in to try and fill the void. Allen Hurns led Miami in receptions with 60 as Phillip Dorsett was injured but Miami is loaded at receiver with Stacey Coley a threat to go all the way on any touch and Clive Walford being another in the long list of Miami tight ends. Denzel Perryman leads the Hurricanes with 1-4 tackles, Jimmy Gaines has 76, and Shayon Green has 63 but the Miami defense has looked disorganized at times. Miami is averaging 35.9 points per game and they are allowing 26. Miami clearly isn’t at the point where they will be contending for a national title every year but they are building in that direction and are accumulating speed and talent on both sides of the football.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisville Cardinals were looking like they were going to have a chance to sneak in the BCS Title game this season but after losing to UCF the dream died. Louisville put together one of the best records in the nation and had a solid season but in the end they fell short of some of the things they wanted to do accomplish. Teddy Bridgewater completed 70.2 percent of his passes for over 3,500 yards with 28 touchdowns and four interceptions but he didn’t even get an invitation to New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation. Dominique Brown ran for 783 yards and eight touchdowns and Senorise Perry had 631 yards and six touchdowns. Damian Copeland has 52 receptions and five touchdowns while DeVante Parker has 46 receptions and 11 touchdowns. Preston Brown has 91 tackles, Calvin Pryor has 69 tackles, and Marcus Smith has 12.5 sacks. Louisville is averaging 35.1 points per game while allowing 12.4 yards per game. Louisville seemed a bit down after losing to Central Florida winning games but not dominating like they had before that point.

Miami is 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five bowl games, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games overall.  Louisville is 12-2 against the spread against the ACC, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 1-6 against the spread following a win.

While on paper neither of these defenses allow much we are looking at a shootout here and the over is a solid play. I also have a pick on who will cover the spread that is 100% free on Saturday on the App.
