The Line: Arizona Wildcats -23.5 -- Over/Under: 57 See the Latest Odds
The Arizona Wildcats and the UNLV Rebels face off on Friday in Tucson as they kick off their 2014 college football schedules.
The Arizona Wildcats were bowl winners a season ago but they had their share of highs and lows. Arizona knocked off Oregon but took losses to Washington State and to arch rival Arizona State among others. Anu Solomon looks to be the front runner for the starting QB job as Arizona starts their fourth QB in four years. With Ka’Deem Carey gone it is going to be an inexperienced youngster or a mix of players such as Pierre Cormier or Zach Greene. At receiver Austin Hill returns from injury and DaVonte Neal transfers in from Notre Dame but Arizona has no shortage of options. The Wildcats O-Line should be solid with four returning starters. The Arizona defense has talent but for the most part is inexperienced though Scooby Wright is back and should be even better after a huge freshman year and Jonathan McKnight is a three year starter at corner.

The UNLV Rebels were a bowl team a season ago but many of the palyers that got them there are no longer par of the program. Nick Sherry is back at QB but it wasn’t until he was replaced last season that UNLV started to excel. Tim Cornett has been the UNLV running game the past four seasons but he is also gone leaving the RB spot to Shaquille Murray-Lawrence. Devante Davis might be the Rebels best offensive player and the offensive line appears strong with most of last year’s team returning. The defense for UNLV should be decent with one of the better secondaries led by Peni Vea who had 108 tackles last season. The pass rush is in good shape as well with Sonny Sanitoa and Jordan Sparkman as the ends.
Arizona is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, 2-5 against the spread against the Mountain West, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four August games. UNLV is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games, 2-5-2 against the spread in their last nine non-conference games, and 12-37-4 in their last 53 road games.
This looks like one of the tougher games of the night but with Arizona having all of the changes on offense and UNLV having a decent defense I will take the Rebels and the 4 scores in what is just a lean.
