The Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State Rams face off on Friday in Denver as they open their 2014 College Football seasons.
The Colorado Buffaloes are hoping to take a step forward as they showed signs of improving last season but still are very much in the rebuilding process. QB Sefo Liufau is back for his sophomore seasn and he has experience but he needs to get better. Christian Powell should get the start at running back but Michael Adkins will get quality time as well. Nelson Spruce is a two year starter at receiver but freshman Bryce Bobo could be the better option. Linebacker Addison GIllam was CU’s leading tackler last season and DT Josh Tupou will be the leader of the defense. There isn’t a ton of experience in the secondary but there is depth and Greg Henderson is the best of the bunch. Darragh O’Neill is one of the better punters in the nation.

The Colorado State Rams were bowl winners last season and they are hoping to build on that win for this season. QB Garrett Grayson is back and he should be airing it out plenty this season after breaking school records for passing last season. Kapri Bibbs left early so Jason Oden should get a shot at RB but it isn’t completely settled. CSU is deep at WR with Rashard Higgins, the best of the bunch, just a sophomore but there has to be concerns on the OL where just one starter is back. Colorado State returns seven starters on defense but one of those isn’t Shaquil Barrett who was the MWC Defensive Player of the Year. Cory James, Max Morgan, are capable linebackers and the secondary should be strong but it will be an entirely new defensive line.
Colorado is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. Colorado State is 5-0 against the spread in their last five games and 5-0 against the spread in their last five non-conference games. The underdog has covered the spread in 13 of the last 18 meetings of these two.
These teams always seem to rise up for this one and I expect that to be the case here and even with the total at a big number I can see this one going over. I also have a strong pick on who will cover the point spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
