The Brigham Young Cougars and Connecticut Huskies open the 2014 season at Rentschler Field.
The Brigham Young Cougars head in to a new season full of potential offensively while a better then average defense a season ago loses a few pieces. In 2013 the defense was the better overall unit but the Cougars are hoping an experienced offense catches up to the D which means that Taysom Hill has to be more then a 54% passer and he has to cut back on mistakes as 14 interceptions on a low completion rate isn't ideal. Look for BYU to pound the ball on the ground with Hill and Jamaal Williams behind an experienced offensive line when all else fails as the run is this team's bread and butter.

Bob Diaco takes over the reins of the Connecticut Huskies football program from Paul Pasqualoni who failed to get the Huskies pointed in the right direction. It looks like Diaco has his work cut out for him as the Huskies need to establish a viable rushing attack to compliment a passing game that has potential. Casey Cochran is the best passer on the UConn roster and he has plenty of receiving options but the offensive line needs some bodies which might be an unknown until we see them play. The question for the Huskies is what will the pass protection be like and will Lyle McCombs have room to operate on the ground. With a depleted front seven the bottom line for the success of UConn is whether the offense can put enough points up if the D struggles to gel.
On paper Brigham Young has advantages in most departments but I do hate laying all these points and then watching Hill throw the ball 25 times and complete 12. I'm backing potential here...
