The Florida Atlantic Owls open 2014 with a trip to Memorial Stadium to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
After the Carl Pelini fiasco of a season ago Florida Atlantic has handed the reins of the football program to Charlie Partridge. Partridge inherits a team that won four straight to end 2013 and finish 6-6. Dual threat quarterback Jaquez Johnson seemed to be picking up his game in this stretch and hopefully will improve further with help from the skill positions as the Owls need scoring punch. Johnson led FAU in rushing and will turn to Jay Warren and Tony Moore for support on the ground. William Dukes and Jenson Stoshak give the Owls two of their top three receivers back while the O-Line loses it's top two. There are holes in the front seven of the defense but the secondary remains strong.

Bo Pelini and the Cornhuskers have their sights set on another postseason berth and are always hopeful of snagging the Big Ten title. The question is whether the passing of Tommy Armstrong Jr will be hit or miss or will it matter with Nebraska's pounding rushing attack? The focus of the rushing attack will be on Ameer Abdullah who approached 1,700 yards a season ago and was the second leading receiver with 26 receptions. The Huskers get help on the ground from Armstrong and Imani Cross while Kenny Bell will try to improve on his 52 catches from a year ago. The O-line loses the top five so the need here is obvious while the defensive line and the secondary also have several voids.
There might be some motivation for Pelini to run up the score after his brother was ousted at Florida Atlantic. If I were going to bet this I would take a shot on the over but that means FAU might have to score a few points and that's a worry...
