The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers host the Troy Trojans in the 6th consecutive meeting of these programs.
Bill Clark takes over an Alabama-Birmingham program that needs a reversal of fortunes. The Blazers haven't won much and lose some key talent so 2014 is a mystery heading in to the opener. It looks like UAB will go with freshman Jeremiah Briscoe at quarterback and fortunately he has a loaded receiving corps to throw to. Jordan Howard has the potential to give the Blazers 1,000 yards on the ground but he will need help from the guys up front who return five players with starting experience to count on. The Alabama-Birmingham defense has more experience and depth then in recent years so the hope is to keep opponents off the scoreboard which is a worry.

Since quarterback Corey Robinson played his last game for the Troy Trojans in 2013 I have wondered what Larry Blakeney would do for a quarterback because Robinson was a stud. I have seen the Troy depth chart listing Brandon Silvers as the starter but I think there are several viable options so I'm just going to wait and see how things pan out. There won't be any shortage of receivers to throw to but if the Trojans do struggle in the air, Brandon Burks and Jordan Chunn have the ability to pick up the slack on the ground behind a decent offensive line. Anybody that has followed the Trojans in recent years knows the defense has to step up their game and keep opponents off the scoreboard and I don't view this 2014 group any different unless proven otherwise.
I think the worry in backing either team is keeping the scoreboard manageable which hasn't been a strength. I believe Troy might have a bit more overall potential but don't be surprised at whatever happens...
