The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Atlanta Owls face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa in college football action.

The expectations for the Alabama Crimson Tide are sky high once again this season but in their first game there seemed to be more questions than answers as they held on to beat West Virginia. The Alabama offense racked up 538 yards and scored 33 points. Blake Sims got the nod at QB and despite competing 75 percent of his passes in game one it will be interesting to see how long he can hold onto the starting job. Alabama had two backs go over 100 yards against WVU as T.J. Yeldon rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns and Derrick Henry rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown and was just tough to bring to the turf. Amari Cooper finally put the numbers that have been expected of him grabbing 12 receptions and DeAndrew White had six grabs before leaving the game and he won’t be back for seveal weeks. The Alabama defense looked a lot shakier than we have seen in recent years allowing 23 points and 393 yards and the kick coverage also had some big break downs. Trey DePriest didn’t play as he was suspended but Landon Collins had six tackles as did Cyrus Jones to lead the Tide. Alabama clearly has plenty of talent but Nick Saban’s team looked a little raw in week one and they will need to improve.

The Florida Atlantic Owls opened the season at Nebraska and it proved to be a bad spot for them as they were blown out of Lincoln. The FAU offense managed just 13 first downs and 200 yards as after an early touchdown they just looked ineffective. Florida Atlantic passed for just 95 total yards against the Huskers as neither Jaquez Johnson was knocked around and Greg Hankerson completed just 11 combined passes. Jay Warren led the Owls rushing attack with 77 hard earned yards while Luck Whitehead had five catches to lead the FAU receivers. As bad as things were on offense, the defense was even worse allowing 784 yards including 498 rushing yards and 55 points. Damian Parms had 8.5 tackles and Sharrod Neasman, Robert Relf, and Andrae Kirk each had seven tackles. Florida Atalnta looks to be in another very tough spot here and they can only hope road games like these can help build the program and make the team tougher once conference play rolls around.

Alabama is 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 0-3-1 against the spread after allowing less than 100 yards rushing their previous game, and 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games. FAU is 12-2 against the spread in their last 14 road games, 9-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 6-15 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread.

The Alabama defense didn’t look sharp and the Tide have now allowed special teams touchdowns in two of their last three games so laying nearly six touchdowns looks to be excessive but look for the tide to go to the ground game and just have too much talent here.
